My name is Michelle Gerbrick. This will be my fifth year as principal of Crestwood Intermediate School. Prior to this position, I was a 5th grade teacher and District Science Specialist in the Appoquinimink School District in Middletown, DE. Later on, I served on the Technology Research and Integration Team at Aurora City Schools and here now at Crestwood Local Schools leading a building that I love.
Our goal here at CIS is to provide excellent academics in a nurturing school environment. We recognize that each student is unique. Knowing this, we try to provide an overall well rounded curriculum allowing for each student to shine. We do encourage our students to come to school and work hard having a growth mindset.
CIS has had a number of changes these past few years. First and foremost, we have gone Google. A number of our classrooms are experimenting with blended learning environments by setting up Google classrooms. Currently, we have ten mobile laptop carts and two computer labs at CIS. Teachers will be utilizing the Edcite platform with assessment creation this year to prepare our students with the online navigation of state tests.
In addition to this, we use AIMSweb Plus as our data tool for our students in grades 3-5. This data allows us to provide targeted interventions to students through our RTI process.
Our district Positive Behavioral Intervention System is "Crestwood Cares for Others, School and Self". In 2015, we received the Momentum Award from The Ohio Department of Education. This award recognizes schools that have received A's on every Value Added measure on Ohio's School Report Cards. In other words, we have demonstrated that every child of every background and ability level received a year's worth of academic growth in reading and mathematics.
Our teachers have and continue to receive professional development with FIP: Formative Instructional Practices, Number Talks, Guided Reading, and Lucy Calkin's Writer's Workshop.
Most recently, we've designed a mobile MakerSpace and are currently procuring funding to make it a reality for our upcoming school year to provide students with experiences in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics during opportunities within the school day and after school.
We are looking forward to our 2017-2018 school year with the many changes that have been implemented.
