District News

The Crestwood Local School District currently has to make up four calamity days. The Crestwood Board of Education, last evening, passed a resolution to utilize Blizzard Bags to help offset school days missed this past winter.  Blizzard Bags are an option provided by the Ohio Department of Education for school districts to help make up as many as three instructional days during a school year. With the use of Blizzard Bags, the Crestwood Local Schools will only have to make up one day at the end of this school year.

Blizzard Bags are online or take-home lessons that students complete to make up a missed day of school. Assignments will be available online on our individual schools’ websites or as “take home” hard copy assignments for your child to complete beginning Monday, April 14.  Assignments are due two weeks after they are assigned.  For example, the first assignments will be due two weeks from Monday, April 14 which is Friday, April 25.   The second assignments will be assigned Monday, April 28 and will be due Friday, May 9.  The third assignments will be assigned Monday, May 12 and will be due Friday, May 23.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the Principal of your child’s school. We hope that the use of Blizzard Bags will be beneficial to your child’s education and success.

Since one additional day must be added at the end of the year, the last day of school for Crestwood students will now be June 6, 2014.

CEA Helps Kids

Did you see the teachers working a booth at the Potato Festival?

This year’s basket auction raised a record amount. With that money, Crestwood Education Association is offering Summer Camp scholarships to Crestwood Middle School students.  Any student interested in attending a summer camp is encouraged to submit an application for the scholarship.  CEA realizes that there are many wonderful opportunities for summer camps available to middle school age students, yet the cost can sometimes make it difficult for families to send their children. CEA wants to help. Through CEA fundraising efforts, four $100 scholarships have been made available. Applications for all types of camps will be considered.

To apply, simply fill out the application which can be found on the middle school page of www.crestwoodschools.org. Return the completed application to Kim Marfy at Crestwood Middle School in a sealed envelope by May 1st, 2014. Applications can also be picked up at the middle school office.

Terracycle - Outsmart Waste

In an effort to engage students in small environmental initiatives that can have a big impact, Crestwood Middle School is participating in the Terracycle Packaging Brigade.

TerraCycle (www.terracycle.com) is creating national recycling systems for previously non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle waste. Their goal is to eliminate the idea of waste by creating collection and solution systems for anything that today must be sent to a landfill.

CMS asks that you please help your child collect the following:

Any brand of flexible cheese packaging

Any brand of tooh care product packaging
