Crestwood Bond Issue August 8, 2017

Crestwood High School is nearly 60 years old and is not conducive for learning and teaching in the 21st century.  The building is inefficient to operate, is poorly organized, lacks modern security features, and is not easily handicapped accessible. Crestwood Middle School is newer but does not provide the greatest educational opportunities our students need for their futures.

Crestwood Schools gathered input from the community and worked with experts and the State of Ohio to create a plan for our future.   This bond issue would replace our aging High School and Middle School.

If the issue passes, the State of Ohio will pay for 29% of the cost of the new school.  If we don’t pass, the funds will go to another community.

The issue means a new High School, on the existing site, with a 7-8 grade wing and a separate 9-12 grade wing.  It will also means two gymnasiums and an auditorium.

The new high school will be built using local construction service companies when possible, meaning our local tax dollars will stay in our community.

Under the plan, the existing middle school will be repurposed for board offices and will be available to students for gym practice space and to our residents for community uses.

The issue means 21st century learning spaces that will better prepare our students for college and jobs- important since the quality of our schools are critical to our community and to our children.

Better facilities will help keep and attract people to our community.

Crestwood has newer elementary and intermediate schools.  These buildings will be paid off by 2023, almost offsetting the cost of these new buildings. (In 2017 $14.44 a month for $100,000 home.  After 2023 your tax bill will be reduced by the payoff of the elementary schools.)

Now is the time to upgrade for our middle and high school students. Let’s keep Crestwood moving forward.
