Treasurer Josh Mandel Announces Launch of Crestwood Local School District Checkbook on OhioCheckbook.com

Momentum Grows for Statewide Government Transparency with Over 340 Local Government and School Districts Partnering with OhioCheckbook.com

COLUMBUS – Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel today announced the launch of the Crestwood Local School District checkbook on OhioCheckbook.com.  Last year, Treasurer Mandel launched OhioCheckbook.com, which sets a new national standard for government transparency and for the first time in Ohio history puts all state spending information on the internet. OhioCheckbook.com recently earned Ohio the number one ranking in the country for government transparency.

Joining Treasurer Mandel in announcing this partnership is Crestwood Local School District Treasurer Jill Rowe.  With this launch, taxpayers in the district are now able to view over 58,000 transactions that equal to more than $75.1 million of total spending over the past four fiscal years.

“I believe the people of Portage County have a right to know how their tax money is being spent and I applaud local leaders here for partnering with the Treasurer’s office to post their finances on OhioCheckbook.com,” said Treasurer Mandel.  “By partnering and posting local government checkbooks, taxpayers across Ohio are empowered with a powerful tool to hold public officials accountable within their communities.”

CRESTWOOD LOCAL SCHOOLS RECEIVES NEARLY $1 MILLION GRANT FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Crestwood Local Schools Superintendent Dave Toth received exciting news from the U.S. Department of Education when it agreed to fund a three-year program costing nearly $1 million. The program aims to boost student well-being and achievement.

The district applied for the Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Grant in March 2014 and received notice this week that it was awarded approximately $925,000. The district will receive a little more than $300,000 annually for the next three years beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.

“We applied for this grant because we recognized a trend in student discipline referrals among low socioeconomic students and among those students who were experiencing hardship in the family including unemployment, divorce, and parents being deployed overseas,” said Toth. “Students’ personal and social needs must be successfully addressed during the key elementary years if they are to succeed in the future.”

Summer Technology Positions Available!

The Crestwood Technology Department is in need of 2 summer workers. Student candidates with an interest in technology are preferred.
