Dear Community Members,

As part of strategic planning for the district, we are investigating the possibility of starting a before and after school program for the 2015-2016 school year. This program would be structured for students in grades K-5. This program would be a great service for working parents in the Crestwood District. Please complete this survey to assist us in this process.

Thank you

District Implements Two-Hour Delay Procedures

Living in Northeastern Ohio presents our school district with many challenges dealing with adverse weather. Often, severe conditions at 6:00 a.m. are much improved one or two hours later making it safe to continue school activities. With this being said - our school district may use the option of a two-hour delay start to the school day for inclement weather or other emergencies.  By using the “two-hour delay”, we may be able to have school and avoid using as many calamity days or making up any school hours.

Congratulations CHS Cheerleaders and Coaches!

Federal Court Instructs Ohio Districts to Post Information for Parents Concerning Data Release

A U.S. District Court has ordered that 2013-2014 school year records from the Ohio Department of Education’s Educational Management Information System be turned over to Disability Rights Ohio as part of an ongoing lawsuit.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, families of students whose data will be released must be notified and given the opportunity to object. The court is instructing all local education agencies to post notice about this opportunity to object on their district websites and in a central location, accessible to the public, in each building that is open to the public.

A copy of the notice – which includes instructions on how parents may object to the data release – can be found here. The court must receive objections no later than Sept. 12.

Crestwood Girls Track Qualifies Four Outstanding Young Ladies for The State Meet:

Crestwood's 4 x 800 meter relay team made it through the very tough Austintown Regional Track Meet and qualified for the State Meet at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus on June 6 and 7.

Abby Soltisz (12), Challis Roberts (12), Marissa Midgley (12), and Maddie Sorrick (11) plus alternate Melissa Soltisz (10) will be representing our Red Devils at the state meet.  Abby Soltisz also finished first at Austintown in the 3200 meter run and will be moving on to the state meet in this event.  Congratulations Abby on your 3200meter regional championship.

This is Abby's 8th time qualifying for the state tournament--four in cross country and four in track & field.  We believe this is the first time in Crestwood history that one of our student-athletes has qualified for state competition eight different times.  This is truly a rare and special accomplishment for Abby Soltisz and we are all very proud of her.  Good luck in Columbus to all of our Crestwood runners.  Go Devils!

Student Medicine Pick Up

Parent/guardians must pick up all medicine that their child has in the school clinic by 4:00pm Monday June 9, 2014. We also still have medication from overnight school trips at Middle School and High School.  You will be requested to sign the Medication Return Form showing medication was returned to you. Students who have epipens or asthma inhalers are allowed by law to carry these emergency medications. These will be sent home with students in grades K-12 on the last day of school unless you call the school nurse to advise you prefer to pick it up. Students may not carry any other kind of medication. All medications not picked up will be disposed of at the Drug Take Back Center.

As a reminder, if your child will require medicine at school next school year, please obtain the appropriate prescription, over the counter, inhaler or epipen form from the clinic or online under forms and links. For the safety of all our students, do not send medicine to school with your child. It must be delivered by the parent/guardian or another responsible adult that you designate. Medicine must be accompanied by the completed and signed authorization form before it can be given at school. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe at school.

The Crestwood Local School District currently has to make up four calamity days. The Crestwood Board of Education, last evening, passed a resolution to utilize Blizzard Bags to help offset school days missed this past winter.  Blizzard Bags are an option provided by the Ohio Department of Education for school districts to help make up as many as three instructional days during a school year. With the use of Blizzard Bags, the Crestwood Local Schools will only have to make up one day at the end of this school year.

Blizzard Bags are online or take-home lessons that students complete to make up a missed day of school. Assignments will be available online on our individual schools’ websites or as “take home” hard copy assignments for your child to complete beginning Monday, April 14.  Assignments are due two weeks after they are assigned.  For example, the first assignments will be due two weeks from Monday, April 14 which is Friday, April 25.   The second assignments will be assigned Monday, April 28 and will be due Friday, May 9.  The third assignments will be assigned Monday, May 12 and will be due Friday, May 23.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the Principal of your child’s school. We hope that the use of Blizzard Bags will be beneficial to your child’s education and success.

Since one additional day must be added at the end of the year, the last day of school for Crestwood students will now be June 6, 2014.
