Crestwood High School receives $99,976.00 grant for health education and a service learning project

Crestwood High School in Mantua, OH,  is receiving a $ 99,976 service learning grant for its Health Professions and Affinity Community Program.

The grant was funded by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board.

The youth advisory board is a made of 30 students, ages 17-20, from the across the United States.

The groups aims to annually implement $5 million-a-year to service learning initiatives that address issues that are important  to youth and its communities.

Crestwood’s HPAC program will address health and health education in the community through the acquisition of an aqua-ponic greenhouse at the high school.

The greenhouse uses a water system that recycles the nutrient rich water from a fish tank in order to grow plants and, in turn, uses the plant’s resources to help grow the fish.

Food grown in the greenhouse will be donated to community members in need, with any excess being sold to support and sustain the Coalition for Community Care, the local food pantry.

Internet Safety Internet Safety
  • Is your 11-18 year old using Ask.fm or SnapChat?  Do you even know what these platforms are meant to do? (Spoiler alert:  neither one of these apps should exist anywhere in your home)
  • Are you aware that the overwhelming percentage of children are regular consumers of online pornography? And by the way, they don't think it's a big deal.
  • Did you know that your tweens and teens are regularly making it incredibly easy for sexual predators and "cyberbullies" to stalk them?
  • Did you know that if your child has an Instagram account - chances are they have more than ONE account?
  • Did you know that sexting is beginning in the 4th & 5th grade?
  • Did you know that chances are that your child has been the cyberbully at least a couple of times?

If any of these surprised you, come and learn more at the Internet Safety for Parents presentation.  See attached flyer.

Renewal – Permanent Improvement Levy – November 2016 – No New Taxes

In 1987, the Crestwood Local School District residents approved a 3.5-    mill permanent improvement levy. Proceeds from this levy can be used to purchase or repair those items in the school district that have a long term useful life.  Typically a five (5) year useful life or more is utilized when determining the use of these funds.  The money from a permanent improvement levy can be used to purchase school busses, school building equipment such as boilers, furnaces, hot water heaters, water fountains, light fixtures, technology, athletic equipment and band equipment, etc.  It can be used to replace or repair school roofs, cracked sidewalks, windows, as well as for the purchase of new textbooks, desks and instructional equipment.

Calamity Day Information

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Living in Northeastern Ohio presents our school district with many challenges dealing with adverse weather. Often, severe conditions at 6:00am are much improved one or two hours later making it safe to continue school activities. With this being said - our school district may use the option of a two-hour delay start to the school day for inclement weather or other emergencies.  By using the “two-hour delay”, we may be able to have school and avoid using as many calamity days or making up any school days.
The need to close or delay the opening of our schools for the safety of students and staff is a decision we take very seriously. We understand students are better served both academically and socially by being in school, however, student and staff welfare is our top priority.

Quality Profile Quality Profile

Dear Crestwood Community,

I am sure you are aware that the state report cards were released. A preliminary glimpse shows that as suspected and anticipated that scores were mixed to mostly lower across the state.  This is true of Crestwood. Although this is a measure of some academic proficiency of our students that take a test on one given day, these scores will never tell the entire story of our district.  In my tenure as the Superintendent of Crestwood, the State Legislature has decided to change the tests three times and has yet to stick with a plan.  This undoubtedly has an effect on testing outcomes.  It was also the first time our entire student body completed the state tests online via of a computer. But we will not make excuses for these scores.  We know we can do better. The administration and teaching staff are working diligently to make sure all of our students achieve and have put in place various interventions that will assist the students that are struggling academically.  At the same time, we feel we have many challenging courses for our academically talented students.

Congratulations October Employees of the Month!

Congratulations to Crestwood School's employees Steve Kerst and Doyle Hogue for being chosen "Employee of the Month" by the district administrative team.
