I joined the Crestwood High School faculty in 1988. Throughout my career, I have taught nearly every grade and level of English offered at Crestwood (except ninth). For the first 13 years of my tenure at CHS, I also taught newspaper production. Additionally, I have served as NHS advisor, sophomore class advisor, and I have coached both cross country and track. Since the 2001-2002 school year, I have been teaching all three levels of senior English (American Literature) while also serving as the senior class advisor. I absolutely love working with seniors and sharing in such an important year of my students' lives.
In 1988, I earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Akron, graduating as a University Honors Scholar. Then, I earned a Master's of Education degree in 1992, also from Akron. In 1999, I became a National Board Certified Teacher and have served as a mentor to other teachers as well as an adjunct professor for Ashland University, offering more than a dozen professional development workshops to fellow teachers. Over the years, I have also served on countless committees both within and outside of CHS. Since 2001, I have been a member of the Educational Advisory Panel at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, helping to create the Teacher Resource Guide. I have also been an active member of the Ohio Graduation Test Reading and Writing Content Review Committee. Currently, I am the English Department curriculum liaison and in 2009 I renewed my status as a National Board Certified Teacher by completing a "Profile of Professional Growth." In May, 2013, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Composition from The University of Akron and then finished the requirements for a second Master's degree (this time in composition) in August, 2014. As a result, I am now an adjunct professor for Kent State University, offering college English classes here at CHS as part of the College Credit Plus Dual Enrollment Program.
As this brief synopsis of my profesional development indicates, I have truly embraced life-long learning--a trait I emphasize with my students.
On a personal level, my husband and I married in 1990. We have two sons. One is a senior bio-medical engineering major in college while the other is a senior in high school. Over the years, my husband and I have been actively involved in our son's activities, serving as coaches, members of various parents' groups, etc.
