Physical Education National Standards
     1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills & movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Benchmark A 
Demonstrate locomotor & non-locomotor skills in a variety of ways.
**Running, skipping,hopping, galloping/slide, rolling, balancing, rhythm
Benchmark B
Demonstrates developing control of fundamental manipulative skills.
**Catching, throwing, kicking, striking, foot dribbling, hand dribbling
      
      
2. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, startegies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
Benchmark A
Demonstrates knowledge of movement concepts related to body, space, effort, and relationships.
**Levels, space, distance, effort, speed
Benchmark B
Demonstrates knowledge of critical elements of fundamental motor skills.
**Critical elements of fundamental skills are assessed in true/false testing.

     3. Participates regularly in physical activity.
Benchmark A
Engages in regular physical activity inside & outside of school to meet national recommendations for daily physical activity.
**Students will recall the amount of physical activity completed over the course of a week.
Benchmark B
Recall participation and physical activities both in & out of school.
**Students will draw a picture of their favorite activity that they participated in during 1 week of school, at home, on the playground, and somewhere in the community.

     4. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
Benchmark A
Demonstrates & develpos health-related fitness.
**The student will demonstrate fitness-related activities using appropriate principles & practices in authentic game settings. The student will also demonstrate sufficient fitness to sustain moderate to vigorous physical activity.
-Aerobic capacity/cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength & endurance, flexibility.
*The intent of the K-2 fitnes assessment is to assess fitness in an authentis setting. Following the recommendations of The National Association of Sport & Physical Education, there is no formal measurement of fitness in grades K-2.
Benchmark B
Understands the priciples, components, and practices of health-related physical fitness.
**Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of health-related fitness principles, concepts, components, and practices by completing questions from a test bank.

     5. Exhibits personal behavior & social behavior that respects self & others in physical activity settings.
Benchmark A
Knows & follows procedures & safe practices.
Benchmark B
Demonstrates responsible behavior in physical activity settings.
*A rubric will be used as a formative assessment over the course of a number of different contexts.

     6. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
Benchmark A
Enjoys participation in a variety of physical activities.
**Students identify & advocate for others to participate in either a specific physical activity or non-specific physical activity. Students identify the reasons for enjoyment.
Benchmark B
Discovers that physical activities promote self-expression & positive social interaction.
**Students identify & advocate for others to participate in either a specific physical activity or non-specific physical activity. Students identify the reasons for enjoyment.
*A rubric will be uses to provide a rating in both benchmarks.
