ART THROUGH HEADS EYES:
"Art is not creating pretty, fun little crafts and displaying them for people to look at like some see Art to be... Art is much more. Not only is Art a time to be creative, express individuality, create something purely from the complexity of the mind, but it is a life changing experience each an every time you decide to take part in the process of art making." -Eric Head
I fell in love with the process of making art. I love having the freedom to create what you want, when you want it. Growing up as an athlete I always had an agenda I had to follow which made the constant routine seem dull and unfulfilling. However, that allowed me to see the beauty of the opposition. Art challenges your mind and your perception and forces you to see different and think creatively. My class will provide each and every student with the fundamental knowledge of Art making and also help them realize how it applies to the real world and how it can change their life. I want to open their mind to the opportunity the process of making art can open for them. Employers, jobs, the world all require someone who possesses creativity, someone who will think of a different way of looking at a problem or idea. Art is taking initiative, being creative, thinking critically. Bam, you're hired. one is not limited to making art and teaching art. It is graphic design, architecture, landscape design, interior design, automotive design, etc. the list goes on and on!
As a kid I had a lot of trouble paying attention. Yes, sounds like a typical middle school child! Once I began drawing, making art, even playing the piano and reading music, my life changed for the better. My attention span grew along with my competence. It was like a switch flipped in my brain turning it from the off position to the on position. The critical and creative problem solving I used in the art room transferred over into my core classes and my grades slowly started to improve. Activating the mind, like exercising the body, allows the mind to strengthen just like the body. I challenge you to try something new, pick up a pencil, pick up a paint brush... See for yourself!
