Director of Curriculum/Principal: Mrs. Julie A. Schmidt
I am very excited to announce that this year, in addition to starting my sixth year as the principal of Crestwood Middle School, I will also be the Director of Curriculum for the Crestwood Local School Distric for the 2015-2016 school year. Prior to becoming Director of Curriculum andPrincipal at CMS, I was an 8th grade Social Studies teacher in this building for ten years. In addition to being a teacher, I have also served as the Social Studies Department Chairperson, District Curriculum Liaison and on the International Education Advisory Program Board for Think Global Ohio. I have been an advisor for our Leadership Program and for the 8th Grade Dance. Prior to all this, I taught in the Kent City Schools and served as their Flag Corps Advisor.
I grew up in Kent, Ohio. After high school, I attended The Ohio State University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts. I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching and an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration, both from Kent State University.
There is a long legacy of educators in my family. My grandmother was a second grade teacher in Kent and my father served as a music teacher, assistant principal, and principal for the Kent City Schools. My mother was a teacher and guidance counselor here at Crestwood Middle School. I have been married for twenty-five years. We have four amazing, active children. Jocelyn (22 yrs. old), Luke (20 yrs. old), Kyle (11 yrs. old), and Dylan (9 yrs. old) make us very proud and keep us busy. Jocelyn is a graduate of Hiram College where she was an RA and the Captain of the Women's LaCrosseTeam. She now lives in Maine and works on tall ships. Luke is a junior at Bowling Green State University who is majoring in vocal music performance and education. Kyle is a sixth grader and Dylan is in fourth grade. They are both involved in a variety of athletic (soccer, football, basketball, track) and musical (trumpet, percussion, voice, dance, theater) activities.
My goal for Crestwood Middle School is to foster an atmosphere where all students are learning within a supportive, challenging, and safe educational environment. I believe all of our students have unique interests, talents, needs, and learning styles; therefore, they deserve a learning environment that provides them with engaging curriculum, instruction, assessment, and support using state of the art technology and blended learning to meet our rigorous academic standards and to provide them with opportunities for success. I am committed to being a positive role model for faculty, staff, parents, community members, and students by continuing to educate myself on the best practices in education and by staying current on educational policies, technology, and trends. I truly believe it is important to provide every student with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to become successful, self-sufficient adults who are lifelong learners and who will contribute responsibly to our global society. As Director of Curricuulum, I will bring new and innovative academic programs and technology to the entire district.
Crestwood Middle School is fortunate to have an amazing faculty and staff working with your children. They are all kind, compassionate, and dedicated to ensuring that your child receives a meaningful, fun, and challenging education.
I look forward to working with parents, teachers, staff, students, and community members to make it a great school year for our children.
Go Red Devils!
Guidance Counselor: Mrs. Lynne Morrison
My name is Lynne Morrison and this is my ninth year as the School Counselor for Crestwood Middle School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Hood College and my Master's of Education in School Counseling from Kent State University.
In addition to my role at CMS, I am also a part-time instructor for Kent State University where I teach one section of School Counseling Practicum.
I currently live in Aurora with my family and am the proud mother/stepmother of four. As the parent of an adolescent myself, I can empathize with the challenges and struggles of raising a middle aged student. I can also share the successes. We all experience transitions with our children and need some support and guidance along the way.
It is my goal to work as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create an environment conducive to the academic and personal/social development of all students at CMS. I am committed to working in collaboration with you to enhance your child's middle school experience. I appreciate both your feedback and suggestions and maintain an open door policy for both you and your student. I look forward to working with you.
