At Crestwood High School, all students must take a required year-long English class in each grade (totaling 4 credits). Students may choose between regular English or honors. And, during the senior year, students may even opt to take Advanced Placement English whereby they can potentially earn college credit. In addition, the English department offers many different electives which students can take. These “extra” courses are considered “over and above” the required English 9, 10, 11 and 12 classes. Please see the Course Selection Guide for more detailed descriptions of classes offered.
The English Department staff consists of six full time teachers. With a combined 77 years of teaching experience, the department boasts a National Board Certified Teacher and Ohio Master Teacher; 5 members hold a Master’s degree while the other is currently pursuing one. All have completed additional coursework beyond their last degree—modeling the kind of life-long learning they hope to instill in their students. In addition to their regular teaching duties, every member of the English department staff serves as an advisor, coach or committee chairperson—making them one of the most active and involved departments in the school community.
