Message to CHS Students and Families from Dave McMahon

Hello students and families, this is Dave McMahon, principal of Crestwood High School, with an important message.

Before I address the main message of this communication, I want to recognize the efforts that the majority of our students have put into maintaining a responsible approach to their education. This is a very difficult time for everyone and I find it not only notable but also commendable that so many of our students demonstrate the grit required in both good and challenging times.

The purpose of this communication is to reiterate the method associated with the calculation of final course grades.

Final course grades will be calculated as follows:

  • Students who HAVE been engaged in the educational process (completing assignments and assessments) throughout the fourth marking period of the school year are eligible to have their final course grade calculated in one of two ways:

    • If the student’s grade during the last marking period is lower than the course average grade the student had at the end of the third marking period, the student’s final course grade would omit the fourth marking period grade and the final course grade will be set to be the grade as it stood at the end of the third marking period.

    • If the student’s grade at the end of the fourth marking period is higher than the course average grade the student had at the end of the third marking period, the student’s final course grade would include that higher fourth marking period grade (have a positive impact) in the determination of the final course grade.

  • Students who HAVE NOT been engaged in the educational process (completing assignments and assessments) throughout the fourth marking period of the school year will receive the grade that they earned due to their lack of engagement during the fourth marking period. This information has been communicated multiple times, by multiple Crestwood teachers/staff members, via multiple venues (emails, phone calls, text messages, letters (sent by both regular and certified mail) and more.

I hope that this information serves to clarify any questions that may exist regarding the final course grade determination for this school year. Again, I commend the largest majority of our students on their hard work and diligence during the fourth marking period.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school counselor by email.
